Aloha hou kakou!
Hele mai a kokua i na pulapula o Hawai’i nei. Come and help the children of Hawai’i. Due to the current rules of the Hawaii State Department of Health, the selling of hand pounded kalo (pa’i'ai) is prohibited and violators can be fined up to $1000 per offense. We need a way to be sustainable, while we are teaching the kids how to feed the kupuna and inspiring the world to look at the delicious taros of our islands. Modeled after the existing honey law, HB1344 and SB101 aim to legalize the direct sale of pa’i'ai to the people. As long as we take a DOH food safety course (free from DOH), label our pa’i'ai with name and address of pounder and a disclaimer (not made in a DOH certified kitchen). Please take your time to get educated about these bills, you can go to www.capitol.hawaii.gov to review. We also need your help with getting HB1344 heard in the Consumer Affairs committee, Representative Robert Herkes is the chair of this committee and is the only one that can schedule a hearing. March 4th is the deadline for HB1344 to be heard, give him a call 586-8400 and ask him to hear the people, hear the bill and caste his vote in support. Time is of the essence, so at your earliest convenience is greatly appreciated.
Nui ke aloha a mahalo i na po’e e malama Haloa,
Mana Ai ‘Ohana
Aloha mai e ku`u mau hoaapili. (Hello my dear friends)
I’ve noticed politicians here in Hawai`i like to use na mea Hawai`i a pau
(all things Hawaiian) in showing how much aloha they have to showcase the aloha spirt here in the islands. They’ll use Hawaiian words like Aloha, mahalo, kokua, to show visitors that they are a part of this aloha spirit. But when it comes to showing the Hawaiian people some aloha, they choose not to. It’s like you politicians have a great fear of us. Anything the Hawaiians want to do, you politicians like to shut us down. You won’t let braddah Daniel and other Kanaka Maoli to sell hand pounded poi, but you’ll let china town to sell produce in a store infested with rats? Why is this government so afraid of letting our keiki learn about the true Hawaii from real Hawaiians. Seems to me, America and people in office without Hawaiian blood is trying to get rid of us and stop the passing of traditional knowledge to our next generations. You actually believe something made from a machine is better than something made from an actual person. You all have gone haywire in your minds. Please stop your madness and let the true Aloha into your hearts and mind, and let love take over.
Aloha nui ia `oukou. (Much love to you all)
