Your poi is the best! I sometimes have friends in Nevada or on the west coast that send me taro brand or other types. But nothing compares to your pa i’ai!!!
Aloha nui! keep up the good work!
Mahalo to Daniel and Mana ai for the kokua they offered me in summer of 2011…. One week before my departure for a 6 week trip between British Columbia and Munich, Germany Mana ‘ai hooked me up with 3 pounds of vacuum sealed packed pa’i'ai. I ordered three pounds, after two weeks in the refrigerator with the help of a kanaka who went to school at Standford University (and familiar with defrosting poi) we served 2 pounds of pa’i'ai turned poi. The trip to Canada was an exchange between the University of Hawaii at Manoa Indigenous Politics program and the University of Victoria Indigenous Governance program….at the end of the potluck no more poi…gone!
Three weeks later (total 5 weeks) I presented traditional foods of Hawaii (pa’i'ai, dried venison, pa’akai and ‘awa). Instead of mixing the pa’i'ai into poi I just cut up the block and snipped up the dried meat. Because the food session was a 1 hour break everything needed to finger foods, everyone devoured the squared pa’i'ai, venison and pa’akai. Everyone loved the foods of Hawai’i and we were the only ones to show up with traditionally processed food.
Mahalo no ho’i e Mana’ai!
I first tried Pa’i'ai at the NYC workshop hels by Mana Ai Daniel Anthony and his wife and partner L anunue. Needless to say i was hooked instantly. As someone who cares about Hawai’i, her people, and malama ‘Aina, i will be making Pa’i'ai a part of my vegan diet from now on.
Hi Daniel,
Joanne and I arrive for Aunt Lorie’s birthday party on Aug 1, depart for the mainland on Aug 8. Hoping to stay at your dad’s place, hoping to see you and your family, hoping to eat some more Pa’i’ai.
Cheers from the forests of Flagstaff, AZ
-Fred
